Amazing Grace was written in 1772 and published in 1779 by Johhn Newton. The tune was written in 1835 by American composer William Walker. It was adopted as a black spiritual and became popular again in the 1960s with the revival of American folk music.
Oliver Hagen approached me in spring 2018 to assist with arranging this tune for a production One Night that he was involved in. The orchestra comes in only on the fourth stanza. He made some further edits to suit the particular ensemble and needs of the show, but I am happy with this version!
