Program Notes:

I'm in my third year of setting the poems from Richard Siken's "Crush" and I am still struck by the immediacy of his language, the ease with which the words flow into music.

This poem exemplifies the way Siken looks at the same situation from multiple perspectives that can't always be reconciled. The music does the same - motifs recur throughout each song despite the disparate styles.
