For Two Bb Clarinets
Duration: 19'15"
I first met Tim Coffey in summer 2014 as a sixth grader playing in my summer clarinet choir. I continued working with him the next few summers and was impressed at his growth from year to year. We played a duet on a recital in summer 2018 which was one of the most enjoyable duet experiences of my life! Since then, he went to Ithaca for his Bachelor's in clarinet performance and is currently finishing a Master's in clarinet performance at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music before joining The Orchestra Now at Bard College this fall.
Last year, I wrote Restoration Invocation for Tim to fill the void of large-scale professional-level Bb clarinet duets. However, I still had some ideas floating around which this piece realises. Each movement is an homage to a composer associated with the clarinet - Carl Maria von Weber, Eric Mandat, Jean Françaix, and David Maslanka - with varying degrees of mixture between their compositional style and my own.
