Program Notes:

I first encountered Lucy Yockey at UI Clarinet Day 2019, where she attended as a prospective UI student and brought a contra-alto clarinet to play in the ensemble. Although we didn't overlap in our studies at UI, I kept hearing about her doing cool woodwind things, including helping with the restoration of some of the Sousa Archive's sarrusophones!

We've kept in touch, and I've done some clarinet choir arrangements for her. Earlier this year, she asked me for a piece to play with the Springfield Municipal Band this summer in celebration of her acquisition of an Ab clarinet, where the clarinet soloist starts on Bb then moves to Eb then moves to Ab, playing the same material as the band modulates. My instructions were "Key word is flippant"!
