Concerto for Bb Clarinet and Strings, Op. 176 (2025)

Program Notes:

This piece began life as a sonata for Bb clarinet and sonata, the ninth in my series of sonatas for all the members of the modern clarinet family! A few years ago, I arranged my Ab clarinet sonata for brass quintet (Quasi-Renaissance Dances) and began to conceive how the other sonatas might be adapted for other instrumentations. This is my next foray into that realm!

Each movement is a vignette exploring a different mode of the major scale - the pitch collection remains the same throughout, but tonic slowly rises until it returns to where it started in the final movement.
