Program Notes:

In spring 2021, I wrote ...tulle as an exercise while giving composition lessons to a high school student (the assignment being to write a short piece in the style of Debussy's Claire de Lune). In fall 2022, a student in my piano class asked to play the piece and I remembered how much I enjoyed it, so I decided to write more short preludes in a similar style.

For some of the preludes, the music came first and a title came to mind after - for others, the word or image came first and the music came later. In either case, the compositional process was free-flowing and spontaneous, sitting at the keyboard and letting my hands find the right notes.
