Program Notes:

Rudy Wiedoeft (1893-1940) was an American saxophonist. He was born in Detroit and trained on violin and clarinet before switching to saxophone. He made more than 300 recordings and did much to popularize the relatively new saxophone. He primarily performed on the C melody saxophone, but also performed on Bb soprano and Eb alto.

I have arranged several pieces for the wonderful Eastman Saxophone Project. Following the performance of my arrangement of "An American in Paris" in spring 2022, saxophone professor Chien-Kwan Lin asked me to arrange this piece for Meliora Weekend 2022, celebrating Eastman's centennial. Eastman School of Music Dean Jamal Rossi was putting together a prism-style concert with a Roaring 20's theme. ESP had previously performed this piece with Chad Smith, but Chien-Kwan wanted a new duet arrangement with new clarinet professor Michael Wayne.
