Dusk, Op. 133, No. 3 (2022)

Program Notes:

Dusk is the third of a set of three pieces depicting sunlight. These pieces were written for the La Porte High School bands for performance in fall 2022. As part of our first semester concerts, we like to split the band into woodwind/brass choirs (with percussion either joining or forming their own ensemble, depending on the year). We first tried this last year, and I wasn't able to find a lot of good repertoire that fit our groups - so I decided to write my own, tailored to our specific instrumentations!

This piece draws inspiration from extended harmonies commonly found in both jazz and French Impressionist music.
