For String Quartet
Duration: 1'
In the spring of 2021, I began giving informal composition lessons to Chris Price, a junior at LPHS. I decided it would be fun to also realize the assignments I was giving him, hence this series of short pieces.
The assignment:
- This piece is for string quartet (Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello)
- This chorale melody must be the violin I part. The only alteration you may make is changing the octave.
- The other three parts should be relatively slow and smooth (primarily quarter notes and eighth notes - some half notes and sixteenths are fine, sparingly).
- You may only use a rest on beat 4 of m. 8, matching the melody. (And you MUST use a rest in the other parts here.)
- Harmonies are totally up to you!
