Program Notes:

This piece is the seventh in my series of sonatas for auxiliary clarinets and piano (following alto clarinet, contra-alto clarinet, basset horn, Ab clarinet, contrabass clarinet, and bass clarinet), in an effort to expand the serious professional repertoire for these instruments. The piece is shaped as a Baroque dance suite, with a prelude and five traditional (stylized) dances. Some dances are much closer to a true Baroque style; some draw more equally from the Baroque inspiration and modern materials.

The piece was written to perform on the recital Alternatives IX, which is currently unscheduled due to the global pandemic, with Carey Scheck on piano!
