Program Notes:

Humperdinck wrote "Hänsel und Gretel" in 1891-1892 and was premiered by Richard Strauss in 1893. The "Traumpantomime" (or "Dream Pantomime") is the third scene of Act II. Hänsel and Gretel have fallen asleep in the forest and a group of fourteen angels come to protect them from the dangers of the forest.

Ever since I first talked to Mr. Grant about re-forming the Eastman Clarinet Choir, he kept bringing up this piece. When he was in school, William Osseck suggested he transcribe it for the clarinet choir, but he never ended up getting around to it. He thus handed the task down to me and, several years later, it is complete!
