Program Notes:

When Dominic Giardino and I re-started the Eastman Clarinet Choir in fall 2013, we decided to program perhaps the most quintessential clarinet work of all time on our debut concert - a transcription of the Mozart clarinet concerto. In the spring of 2018, Sammy Lesnick (one of the Eb clarinet players on the original performance) referred me to Elisabeth Stimpert, clarinet professor at the University of Central Missouri, who was looking for just such a transcription. However, she was hoping for an edition more accessible and geared towards an educational setting. As such, she commissioned this edition which seeks to meet those needs, raising the key by a semitone to Bb major, and providing a greater number of options for instrumentation, allowing more ensembles to perform this important work!
