Cascades, Op. 54, No. 2 (2013)

Program Notes:

"Cascades" was written on the request of Rebecca Jeffreys, my sister’s flute teacher, to premiere at a Boston recital with the Open Aire Ensemble (Rebecca Jeffreys and Marjorie Bollinger Hogan, flutes; Molly Wood, piano). Having become close friends with many flutists in my first year at Eastman and having fallen quite in love with the sound of the flute, I eagerly accepted. The title is meant to evoke flowing water – while not rapid, per se, there is certainly an undercurrent of movement throughout the work.
