Opus 17, "Jazz Pieces" catalogues pieces I wrote while studying jazz piano under Mary Giacobbe. While most exist only as lead sheets, a few are written out in full notation. I recognise the strangeness of providing a cover for a lead sheet but, not having nearly enough to publish my own fake book, I'm not quite sure how else to publish them - and there is something to be said for consistency!
"Ostensibly So", written on July 13, 2009, incorporates leftover thoughts after writing the more traditional "Wanderlust". A 5/8 ostinato groove is established that gives the piece most of its momentum. Experiment with swinging in 5/8 to find something that makes sense to you - you can't groove if you don't feel it.
