In the fall of 2022, I began giving informal composition lessons to Zach Kabacinski, a junior at LPHS. I decided it would be fun to also realize the assignments I was giving him, hence this piece.
The assignment:
I would like you to write a short (ca. 1-2') piece for trumpet and piano. The trumpet part may only use a single note! (You may choose which note it is.) There are no restrictions on the piano part, except that it must be playable!
Stücke is the German word for "piece", but also references the feeling of being stuck on a single note, perhaps breaking out with the final C6.
