For Bb Clarinet and Piano

Program Notes:

In the spring of 2021, I began giving informal composition lessons to Chris Price, a junior at LPHS. I decided it would be fun to also realize the assignments I was giving him, hence this series of short pieces.

The assignment:

1) This piece is for Bb clarinet and piano.

2) The length is 16 measures.

3) You must be able to play the piano part. (Although I am not you, I'll keep mine to a fairly simple texture - probably block chords in one hand and something simple in the other)

4) One harmony per measure.

5) All harmonies must be major or minor triads.

6) Between measures, two of the notes of the triad must remain the same and the other must move by half or whole step.

7) There are no restrictions on the clarinet part, but it should reasonably follow the harmonies in the piano part. (Non-chord tones are of course allowed, but the clarinet part shouldn't ignore the piano part or be in a different key or nonsense like that!)
