For Flute and Piano

Duration: 2'40"

Program Notes:

This piece was written as a wedding gift for my dear friend Dave Flournoy (piano) and his bride-to-be Anna O'Connell (flute). Their wedding, on December 12, 2020, is actually the first wedding I have ever been invited to attend - but I had to regretfully decline due to coronavirus restrictions.

The piece is intentionally in the style of John Tesh (or, at least, how I remember his style), a pianist whose works we enjoyed playing in high school. The title comes from Algernon Charles Swinburne's poem "The Garden of Proserpine". The poem has no bearing on the intention of the work save that the first line felt like an appropriate sentiment!
